REVIEW:
The round eyes that's different from any other manga style drawing, the characteristic small nose and round face. All of those traces can't be confused, that art style belongs to renowned artist "Range Murata" (personally one of my favorites also).

Since i own a couple of his artbooks in where there are some pictures of "Last Exile" i was intrigued about what where those, setting myself to a little search, i quickly found what it was about. A 26 episodes anime that apparently have been aired and have been popular in the UK.

Last Exile, from my point of view is one of the best anime series that i have watched, the story (as said in the summary) is focused on Claus and Lavie from childhood to their current age (which i forgot), their inclusion within the Silverna and their roles with Guild. A vanship is err... a ship that looks like a old Volkswagen with wings or whatever old vehicle come to your mind.

I must admit that i really hate steampunk themes, but this anime just makes me reconsider my decision, like most anime, it starts slow paced on story (but fast in motion and such), since flying is a center theme here most of the time the story flows in the sky, from great scale militia battles, to small one on one battles, each battle has a magnificent amount of details plus they keep your attention at it.

I don't want to spoil the fun for you, therefore i will leave the story right there. Lets talk about graphics, the coloring and shading style are the same used in many anime, plain and simple vectors, that is until you realize that a lot of scenes that are made from CGI, the blending between both, the vector style and the CGI is impressive, you will most likely notice it but still its impressive... its not anywhere near "Karas" (Ova for another day) but for the typical anime studio it's great.

The entire soundtrack is fabulous, the OP is good, but if you listen to the original full track it's way better, each soundtrack fits the ambience of "Last Exile", while some are war related, there are also some that are soft and easy (like "morning in Norkia" ). As for the ED, i listen to it daily, so i don't think you need more info of it.

Definitely an anime that you have to watch before you die.

RATINGS:
Graphics: 9/10
Sound: 10/10
Story: 9.5/10

SMILAR ANIME:
1. Shangri-La
2. Eureka Seven
3. Howl's Moving Castle
