I have been trying out some Aion private servers, most I could not get to work, one was crap, one was good but then made some bad changes which severely disadvantaged new players.
Current one I am on is the best so far, very high xp rates for mobs and quests and gathering, very high money from quests, very high drop rate, can easily get blue and gold items from drops.
Servers supports ver 1.9 of the game
So far I got a gladiator to lvl 51 and was not even trying to level mostly farming for items, I have 50 million kinna(gold) through selling stuff from drops, all skill and stigmas are auto learn you have free flight around all areas etc.
Its not 100% perfect as things like the auction house does not allow filtering and searching but you can still use it, some quests are bugged and other things.
I started an new toon yesterday and within 2 hrs of messing around I was lvl 25 with a full set of Blue upgraded gear with a gold weapon, I had farmed the gear on my glad in preparation.
Basically I achieved more in one week of casual play than the 4+ months I played on retail.
